  • To demonstrate combined aquaculture and halophyte farming (farming of saline tolerant plants) using the principles of circular economy, where waste is recovered and utilized within the system to create both internal value and new products.
  • Combination of aquaculture, farming, and bioprocessing to help desalinize salt effected areas and to be combined with sustainable management of natural areas and/or use of marginal lands to create value and jobs in rural, remote and salt affected areas.

Riasearch on Aquacombine

Riasearch role in AQUACOMBINE project is to provide Salicornia biomass, Work Package 2 (WP2), and lead Work package 7 (WP7) for the development and testing of halophyte based aquafeeds targeting European seabass and shrimp. Within WP7 Riasearch will work in close collaboration with CIIMAR and UA for the evaluation of the halophyte based aquafeeds regarding zootechnical performance, immune condition, oxidative stress and phytochemical profile of the fish and shrimp.
