Nowadays, the aquafeed sector is seeking for novel ingredients or additives that could add value (nutritional or other) to traditional feeds during sensitive periods of the production cycle. But positioning a novel additive or raw material in the functional feeds segment requires a knowledge-based approach.
In the framework of a collaboration between SPAROS and RIASEARCH, an innovative 3-year research program was launched to establish reliable biological models to assess the functionality of novel raw materials and feed additives in shrimp. Based on a strong scientific background of both companies in the area of aquaculture nutrition, further strengthen by the expertise of several Portuguese research institutes (CCMAR, CIIMAR, UA and UTAD), this research program is focused on the intestinal health and immune robustness of shrimp.
